Bremen snares Gebre Selassie

22 June 2012-PA Sport

Werder Bremen has beaten off competition from around Europe to sign Czech Republic right-back Theodor Gebre Selassie from Slovan Liberec.

Gebre Selassie has signed a four-year deal for a fee reported to be in the region of two million euros ($2.5 million)

The 25-year-old played a key role in Liberec winning the Gambrinus Liga last season and also impressed in the Czechs' run to the quarter-finals at EURO 2012 before their elimination by Portugal.

"We are pleased that we were able to convince Theodor to come here despite a multitude of offers," Werder's general manager Klaus Allofs told the club's official website.

"He is a very talented right-back who has made a good impression at the European Championship."

Gebre Selassie said: "The decision to join Werder Bremen is definitely the right one.

"Werder are a club with a lot of stability and tradition, they always set their goals very high. I want to follow up a successful season with Liberec by playing well for Bremen."
