Fergie in FA firing line for outburst

The Football Association will decide by Wednesday whether to charge Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson over his post-match comments at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

As requested, Ferguson offered his 'observations' by yesterday, giving the FA three working days to decide what it should do.

It seems likely the FA will opt to take further action given the pointed comments Ferguson made towards assistant referee Simon Beck.

Ferguson spoke out following the 1-1 draw at Tottenham, where United conceded an injury-time equaliser after Wayne Rooney's penalty claim was rejected by referee Chris Foy.

However, it was assistant Beck who bore the brunt of Ferguson's ire, with the Scot's discontent with the linesman dating back to April 2010 when he failed to spot Didier Drogba was in an offside position when he scored a crucial goal for Chelsea at Old Trafford.

"He had a really poor game," said Ferguson at the weekend. "There was no way the linesman was going to give that - he gave them everything.

"It was a clear decision. And he was 10 yards away, maybe 12 yards away from the incident and he doesn't give it. And yet he gave everything else.

"I am disappointed with him (Beck) - we have not had a good record with him.

"With Chelsea a couple of years back, he gave onside to Didier Drogba and he was three yards offside. You remember these things because it is in important games and that was an important game."
