John Terry, who will begin his four-match ban at the weekend as Chelsea faces Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane, will retain the club captaincy after his suspension is completed.

The defender has accepted a four-match ban and £220,000 ($341,000) fine from the FA for racially abusing Queens Park Rangers's Anton Ferdinand.

Chelsea is understood to have handed Terry a further fine but he will remain as club captain and will not have any further suspension.

The Blues have insisted that their internal action against Terry will remain confidential, as it has done in a number of other high-profile disciplinary cases involving their players such as Ashley Cole.

The fullback was fined £90,000 by the FA for an offensive tweet related to the Terry case and is also due to face internal action.
