Shirt sponsorship revenue increases

9 October 2012-DPA

Football clubs of the six most important European leagues are for the first time earning more than 500 million euros ($634.71 million) in shirt sponsoring this season, a study shows.

The clubs from the English, Spanish, Italian, German, French and Dutch leagues are earning a total of 522 million euros ($662.64 million) from shirt sponsoring deals, according to the study by research and consultancy company Sport+Markt.

Its annual European Jersey Report shows that the 20 teams of England's Premier League top the earnings with 148.7 million euros ($188.74 million), followed by Germany's 18 Bundesliga clubs on 119.8 million euros ($152.06 million).

Spain's Barcelona has the most lucrative shirt sponsorship deal, worth 30 million euros ($38.08 million) with Qatar Foundation, followed by Manchester United (AON) and Liverpool (Standard Chartered) on 25 million euros ($31.74 million).

Real Madrid (bwin) and Bayern Munich (Deutsche Telekom), on 23 million euros each ($29.2 million), are next on the list, the figures show.

The study is the result of the Cologne-based company's own research and expertise, with figures not taking into account any possible bonus payments.
