Cameron close to Stoke move

26 July 2012-PA Sport

Stoke City is closing in on a deal for United States international Geoff Cameron.

The Potters, who are currently in Orlando, confirmed the 27-year-old Houston Dynamos utility man is due to undergo a medical.

Chief executive Tony Scholes told the club's official website, www.stokecityfc.com: "Whilst we would not normally confirm a transfer until everything is complete, we have agreed a fee and personal terms in this instance and the player will now join up with the squad in Orlando to have his medical.

"Assuming that this goes according to plan, the completion of the transfer will then be subject to us obtaining a work permit, which will probably be done by way of an appeal by early August ahead of the new season."

Cameron can operate in a variety of positions, an ability which manager Tony Pulis hopes will come in useful as he adapts to life in the Premier League.

He said: "He will give us plenty of options. He can play at centre-back, across midfield and even at fullback as well.

"With the squad that we have, it's always useful to have players who are versatile, so in that sense he will be a good asset for the club.

"We believe that he is a player who can cope with the Premier League because he has done exceptionally well over the past year.

"We have watched him a few times, but he also comes with great recommendations from many who consider him one of the top players in the MLS."
