Nedum Onuoha believes Queens Park Rangers' northern summer signings can help take it to the next level.
QPR was the most active club in the past two transfer windows and is likely to be again this northern summer, having accrued five players already.
January recruit Onuoha has been impressed with the quality of the incoming players and expects QPR to do better than last season, when it only secured survival on the final day.
"They all appear to be excellent signings," he told the club's official website, qpr.co.uk
"You've got to trust the manager to pick the right players for the club - he's done that in the past.
"He's helped all the teams that he's been at become better sides.
"The players coming in will help the club to progress.
The defender added: "All being well, this should be a better year for us. I'm very excited for the new season.
"Last season, there was so much tension in the final months.
"But now there's hope and optimism and who knows what can happen?"
QPR begins preparations for the new season on Monday and Onuoha cannot wait to get under way.
"I'm looking forward to being back," the former Manchester City defender said. "It'll be good to start playing football again.
"But I don't think many players look forward to pre-season! It's more so the start of the season.
"I'll probably know what to expect from the manager more than anyone having player under him before. It's going to be hard.
"But it'll be good to go into next season with a proper pre-season under our belts."
