Piquionne fires Pompey through

Pompey, saddled with debt and being pursued by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs, will earn more than £600,000 ($A1 million) in prize money and broadcasting fees for reaching the FA Cup semi-final but money was hardly on its mind as it celebrated victory against Alex McLeish's men.

Piquionne's goals brightened up a quarter-final tie short on action until he struck in the 67th and 70th minutes, then Liam Ridgewell had an effort ruled out for the visitor despite the ball appearing to cross the line.

Tottenham had Heurelho Gomes to thank for keeping it in the cup against Fulham at Craven Cottage in a game that came alive in the second half but still ended goalless.

Gomes made a string of fine saves as Fulham went on the rampage after the interval to book a quarter-final replay at White Hart Lane on 24 March.
