Stoke appeals Delap red

21 February 2012-PA Sport

Stoke City has appealed against Rory Delap's red card in his side's FA Cup win over Crawley Town.

Delap was dismissed in the first half for a sliding challenge on David Hunt, though his team-mates were still able to record a 2-0 win over the League Two side.

Potters boss Tony Pulis was visibly frustrated by the red card and the club has quickly decided to appeal in the hope of overturning the Irishman's three-match ban.

A statement on the club's official website, www.stokecityfc.com, read: "After studying television replays of the incident, City have now notified the Football Association that they will be appealing against the dismissal.

"The club now have 24 hours to present their evidence to the FA in the hope that the midfielder's three-match suspension will be overturned."
