Ten-man Watford was defeated 2-1 by visiting Middlesbrough.

Troy Deeney scored in the first minute for the Hornets but that was as good as it got as Marvin Emnes levelled and Matej Vydra was dismissed before half-time.

Scott McDonald came off the bench to win it for Boro with 13 minutes to play.

Heidar Helguson nodded home an 88th-minute winner as Cardiff City remained top of the Championship with a 2-1 victory at Ipswich Town.

The Tractor Boys took the lead on the cusp of half-time when debutant DJ Campbell appeared to handle the ball over the line but the Bluebirds turned the tide when Helguson prodded home in the 63rd minute after a Scott Loach fumble.

The striker was then on target again to win in it in the closing moments from Andrew Taylor's cross.

Leicester City had earlier enjoyed a brief reign at the summit after a regulation 2-0 win over Bristol City at the King Power Stadium.

David Nugent's 19th-minute opener and a Richard Foster own goal in the second half ensured the Foxes kept their own promotion bid on the right track.

Managerless Blackburn Rovers, led temporarily by Eric Black, extended its winless run to four matches as it was defeated 1-0 by Wolverhampton Wanderers at Ewood Park.

The stalemate lasted until the 78th minute but was ended when Bakary Sako struck from the edge of the penalty area to move Wolves into third.

Crystal Palace lies fourth after edging a thrilling encounter with Burnley 4-3.

Chris McCann (26) and Martin Paterson (29) put the Clarets two up before a brace either side of half-time by Wilfried Zaha tied the score.

Damien Delaney and Glenn Murray gave Palace breathing space only for the prolific Charlie Austin to grab his 15th of the season with nine minutes remaining.

Jermaine Beckford netted after 25 minutes to hand Huddersfield Town three points from its trip to Birmingham City, which had substitute Nikola Zigic sent off, while Andy Reid scored the only goal of the game for Nottingham Forest at Peterborough United.

Leeds United and Hull won their respective Yorkshire derbies 1-0.

Luciano Becchio's 42nd-minute penalty gave Leeds victory at home to Barnsley, while Aaron McLean struck in the 77th minute as Hull City claimed an away win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Second-half goals from Chris Solly and Leon Cort were enough for Charlton Athletic to win 2-0 at an off-colour Blackpool.

Bolton Wanderers' season continued to falter as Darius Henderson struck twice - including his last-gasp winner - to give Millwall a 2-1 victory.

Chris Eagles had earlier equalised for Owen Coyle's side.

Derby County held Brighton & Hove Albion to a 0-0 draw at Pride Park.
