Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca made a good start to the CAF Confederation Cup group phase by holding AC Leopards 1-1 in Congo Brazzaville.
Eric Niemba scored his fourth goal this season in the second-tier competition after 10 minutes for Leopards, the surprise side among the eight chasing a US$660,000 ($624,409) top prize.
But Wydad hopes of becoming the third consecutive Confederation Cup title holder from Morocco after FUS Rabat and Moghreb Fes were enhanced when Abderrazak El Mnasfi levelled on the hour mark.
Malian clubs Stade Malien and Djoliba complete Group B and their clash in Bamako offers both a chance to win and set the pace in a race to finish among the top two and secure a semi-finals place.
