Club Brugge takes second

11 May 2012-PA Sport

Club Brugge clinched a place in the qualifying stages of next season's Champions League after a 2-1 win at Genk secured it second place in the Jupiler League Championship play-off.

Genk took the lead through Jelle Vossen after 24 minutes but Brugge made sure of the win thanks to goals by Maxime Lestienne (45) and Joseph Akpala (80).

The win leaves Brugge all alone in second place, four points clear of third-spotted Genk, and also four points behind champion Anderlecht, which won the title on Sunday (Monday AEST) but suffered a hangover as it went down to a 2-0 defeat at KV Kortrijk, Ernest Webnje Nfor (11) and Mustapha Oussalah (36) with the goals.

In the day's other game, Standard Liege defeated Gent 2-1. Gent took the lead through Christian Bruls after 11 minutes, but Standard secured the points with goals by Luis Seijas (44) and Serge Gakpe (74).
