Bari president Vincenzo Matarrese says a group of drunk fans set off a loud paper bomb outside his house and chanted insults at him overnight.
The incident on Tuesday night came three days after Bari was beaten 2-1 by Cagliari to fall further into last place in Serie A.
The ANSA news agency reports Matarrese saying he is "tired of seeing my wife cry when these things happen. I was about to give it all up but then a friend called and made me think it over for the good of the squad."
Bari hosts European champion Inter Milan on Thursday.
The Matarrese family has controlled Bari for more than 30 years.
