Football Federation Australia has appointed experienced assistant referee Ben Wilson as its new head of referees.
Wilson replaces the outgoing Mark Shield, who stepped down from the position last month to take up a business role in Queensland.
A FIFA assistant referee from 2000 to 2011, Wilson officiated in almost 200 NSL and A-League matches, including five A-League grand finals as well as six FIFA tournaments - including the 2006 World Cup.
Already a member of the National Referees Technical Committee, Wilson's new role will include managing referee appointments for A-League, W-League and youth league games and continuing the rollout of FFA's Refereeing Strategic Plan.
"Having only recently retired from active elite refereeing duties I have a strong understanding of what is required for Australia's elite and future elite referees to succeed both domestically and on an international stage," Wilson said.
Shield will remain on the referees' technical committee.
Borussia Dortmund's Mustafa Amini is among a 26-man Australia U-20 squad selected for a European training camp this month that will include internationals against Netherlands and Germany.
