Central Coast Mariners was too strong for Bankstown City and prevailed 4-0 in a trial match at Jensen Park, Sefton, on Wednesday night.

The Mariners led by two goals at half-time thanks to two strikes in a minute on the half hour from a Daniel McBreen penalty after Troy Hearfield was brought down and a goal from Hearfield.

Hearfield added his second midway into the second half before substitute Tomas Rogic sealed the Mariners' comprehensive win with a fourth goal five minutes from time

The Mariners' victory earned the club the Doug Turnbull Cup which is played annually in memory of Central Coast Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull’s late brother who made a major contribution to football in the Bankstown region.

Doug Turnbull made his debut for Bankstown as a 16-year-old.

The Mariners' next trial match is against Rockdale City Suns at Ilinden Sports Centre, Rockdale, on Tuesday 4 September.
