Australia's J.League-based striker Alex Brosque will sign a two-year deal with UAE Pro League champion Al Ain, The World Game can reveal.
The Dubai club has one spot left to fill in its foreign-player quota having signed Congolese striker Jires Kembo Okoko from France Ligue 1 club Rennes.
Brosque, who has excelled at Shimizu S-Pulse since joining the Japanese club in January 2011, will sign in the next 24 hours for an undisclosed amount, a source close to the deal revealed.
It is believed his Australia team-mate Josh Kennedy, in the J.League with Nagoya Grampus, also came under consideration.
Brosque, who has become a Socceroos regular since trading the A-League for Japan two years ago, will link up with Ghanaian star Asamoah Gyan and Romanian midfielder Mirel Radoi at Al Ain.
"We will have an announcement in the next 48 hours, maybe before," a spokesman from the club told The National. "We're getting closer to the deal.
"We're just sorting out a few things with the player, although it is doubtful he will be available for Friday's match with Ajman."
Brosque joins a growing number of Australia national team stars joining Middle East clubs.
