Reddy lands Iran deal

Reddy’s involvement in the A-League ended when his contract was terminated after a drunken incident aboard a flight to New Zealand ahead of the Sky Blues’ elimination final against Wellington Phoenix last season.

He had a year remaining on his Sydney contract when the club acted after he admitted to drinking on the team flight.

It was claimed that Reddy consumed alcohol both before and during the flight and vomited on the plane and the bus to the hotel in Wellington.

Reddy, who had been supplanted by Ivan Necevski as Sydney’s first choice 'keeper before the incident, was dismissed on a charge of ‘serious misconduct’.

Reddy has since landed a two-year deal with the Tehran-based club which holds a record seven Pro League tiles, six domestic cups and two AFC Champions league crowns.

He is expected to earn around $200,000 a season and will play in the 100,000 capacity Azadi Stadium, which doubles as the country’s national stadium.

The new season kicked off at the weekend.

Compatriot Paul Reid is another Australian who played in Iran, but he lasted just five days into a six-month contract with Mes Sarcheshmeh, bailing out after finding after finding the country and its conditions not to his liking.
