Futsalroos squad announced

10 February 2012-FFA

Australia Futsal national team coach Steven Knight named a 14-man squad for the AFC Futsal Championship 2012 – ASEAN qualifiers, which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 21-26 February 2012.

Following a number of intense weekend training sessions, Knight is confident that his players will be successful at the ASEAN qualifiers.

“It was a tough decision to settle on the final selection of players, but I believe that the squad are the best available players at this time,” Knight said.

“With the mix of youth and experience we have, there is a good understanding of what is required to qualify for the AFC Futsal Championships and we will be developing National team players of the future as well.

“There is a high level of excitement around the squad at the moment and we’re all eager for the kick-off of the first match against Cambodia,” Knight concluded.

The Futsalroos have been drawn with Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam in Group B of the ASEAN qualifiers.

The Qantas Futsalroos opening match of the tournament will be against Cambodia on 21 February (kick-off 11:30am local, 3:30pm AEDT), followed by Malaysia on 22 February (kick-off 11:30am local, 3:30pm AEDT) with their last group match against Vietnam on 23 February (kick-off 2:00pm local, 6:00pm AEDT).

The top three teams from the ASEAN qualifiers will progress to the AFC Futsal Championships 2012, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates in May.
