On Thursday, stars of the Matildas and Socceroos revealed the new Nike national team kit, including the away kit described by Nike as "a fresh water jersey, fresh water socks and deep obsidian shorts."
The kits went on sale to the general public on Friday, but after potential customers asked how they could by the away kit in women's sizes, the official Matildas twitter account confirmed that it would not be available to the general public.
The away kit is sold in men's sizes only, while the home kit is sold in both men's and women's sizes.
The move by Nike proved to be an own-goal, with hundreds of people expressing their frustration including Matildas defensive-midfielder Elise Kellond-Knight.
The Matildas official account made clear that this would be "rectified for the next kit release due in 2022", however, Matildas fans wanted it fixed immediately.
The news comes days after it was announced that the Matildas and Socceroos would continue their arrangement to share revenue for the national teams evenly.
