Arzani reportedly set to follow Aussie footsteps in FC Utrecht loan deal

Daniel Arzani has reportedly agreed terms on a loan move to Eredivisie outfit FC Utrecht, as the Socceroos attacker looks to rebound from two years in the injury shadows at Celtic.

As revealed by The World Game last week, Arzani, 21, was bound for the Netherlands and multiple Dutch media outlets confirmed Utrecht as his next destination on Friday (AEST).

Parent club Manchester City have sanctioned the deal, with Arzani arriving in the Netherlands earlier this week to undergo a medical.

With just two appearances off the bench in two years at Celtic Park after being sidelined for 15 months following an ACL rupture on debut, Arzani is looking to kick-start his career again.

And he’s chosen a club that has strong Australian links, with former Socceroos flier Tommy Oar, Sydney FC fullback Michael Zullo and Brisbane Strikers midfielder Adam Sarota all simultaneously on their books in recent years.

Arzani hinted at the impending move back in May when he told The World Game that the Netherlands was an alluring option after the disappointments and setbacks of his Hoops adventure.

“Holland comes up because it’s a selling league and they develop a lot of really good talent there,” Arzani said.

Utrecht finished sixth on the ladder this season after the Dutch league was concluded prematurely as a result of the coronavirus.
