Even with a hefty slice of FFA’s $1.4 million marquee fund on offer, the salary expectations of the 31-year-old former France international are beyond the scope of ambitious newcomers Western United.
Alain Migliaccio - whose client list includes the legendary Zinedine Zidane - confirmed that Nasri had expressed serious interest in exploring an A-League option offered up by United’s audacious approach.
But when approached by The World Game on Tuesday night Migliaccio said talks would go no further, with Nasri reportedly seeking around $4 million per season.
“In Europe the clubs pay high sums for players (like Nasri) but in Australia it’s not the same,” he explained.
“They don’t have the (sizable) TV money and the big sponsorships.
“At first Sami was interested in going to Australia (as revealed by the Herald Sun) and was happy to discuss whether it could happen or not.
“But, after assessing everything, it’s just not possible.
“We spoke with the president at Western United but we’re not able to move forward with this.”
Nasri, who won two league titles with Manchester City, is a free agent after parting company with West Ham United at the end of last season.
The sometimes fiery attacking midfielder had been linked with Crystal Palace, with Migliaccio saying that Nasri was also targeting Serie A and La Liga.
Nasri, who began his colourful career with Marseille, has however ruled out a return to France.
