Trump was heavily criticised this week after he failed to attend a World War One memorial event at a war cemetery in Belleau, France - the site of a battle that killed 2,000 US Marines.
The 45th US President had travelled to France to mark the 100th anniversary of the ending of WWI, as well as embark in trade talks.
But the talks appeared to have not gone down well, as Trump fired off a barrage scolding tweets about France President Emmanuel Macron and the French government.
The series of tweets, which ranged from the idea of a European army and a comparison of how French and US wines are traded, finished with a twist on Trump's most famous phrase.
"MAKE FRANCE GREAT AGAIN," the US President tweeted all in capitals.
But Mendy, a recent 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, had the last laugh on Twitter - as he so often does.
"Don't worry bro," he tweeted, accompanied by two star emojis - representing the two World Cups France have won.
Mendy and other French World Cup winners, such as Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe, regularly use the two-star emoji on social media to refer to their triumph in Russia this year. Symbolic of the second star they added to the French jersey.
France play the Netherlands this Saturday morning (AEDT) in the UEFA Nations League.
