Aussies Abroad: Irvine’s Hull hold Championship leaders

Socceroos midfielder Jackson Irvine helped Hull City claim a precious point away to Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers after a 2-2 draw on Wednesday morning (AEST).

Irvine came on just past the hour mark and put in a solid performance that pushed Nigel Adkins' men seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Hull looked a chance to claim all three points once Ryan Bennett's own goal edged the Tigers ahead, but were made to settle for a draw after Oskar Buur's 83rd-minute equaliser for Wolves.

While the point continues the Championship leaders' pursuit for automatic Premier League promotion, Irvine's men will take anything they can get ahead of a difficult run-in full of playoff-chasing opposition.
Meanwhile, Socceroos captain Mile Jedinak was an unused substitute in Aston Villa's 3-0 win over Reading, with manager Steve Bruce instead opting for Iceland international Birkir Bjarnason to occupy defensive midfield duties.

In Scotland, Jamie Maclaren again featured for Hibernian in the Premiership, playing 83 minutes in their 3-1 victory over ninth-placed Hamilton Academical.

The win keeps fourth-placed Hibs just one point behind Rangers and four behind second-placed Aberdeen.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Ryan Edwards, who had a rather difficult night out as his Partick Thistle side fell 4-0 away to fellow strugglers Ross County.
Ex-Socceroos striker Scott McDonald grabbed an assist in Dundee United's 2-0 triumph over Dumbarton FC in the Scottish Championship.

The 34-year-old fed Paul McMullan on the half-hour, before Bilel Mohsni sealed all three points in the shadows of half-time.

And defender Tom Beadling also grabbed an assist to help Dunfermline Athletic secure a vital 1-0 win over second-placed Livingston F.C.
