The one-time poster boy of Australian football, has all but disappeared off the sporting radar since his axing by Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou before he 2014 Brazil World Cup.
But it appears he hasn't given up competitive sport altogether with the 39-year-old now part of the coaching staff for his son Marcus' victorious Lowerhouse’s Fagan and Whalley Under-9 Hornets side.
The Hornets beat East Lancashire earlier this month to claim the trophy at the Lancashire Junior League Cup final.
And Neill received high praise for his coaching contribution to the team.
"We are very pleased to add dad Lucas to the coaching staff," Lowerhouse Cricket Club chairman Stan Heaton told the club website.
"From his career as an international footballer, Lucas has brought new ideas and an infectious enthusiasm to the coaching and matches."Neill lives with his partner Lindsey and twin children Marcus and Savannah in the Lancashire countryside near one of his former clubs Blackburn Rovers.
He has been in self-imposed exile since being dumped from the national team by Postecoglou in May 2014 just before the Brazil showpiece, cutting short his 96-cap Soceroos career.
Neill, who would have amassed a multi-million dollar fortune during his illustrious playing days, was last year declared bankrupt after a string of disastrous investments.
Since his Socceroos axing, the former Premier League defender who had stints with West Ham and Everton, has become almost invisible to all but his closest friends and family.
