EXCLUSIVE: Free agent Troisi in talks with Premier League new boys Brighton

Despite also being linked with a return to Newcastle United - the club where it all began for Troisi as a teenager - sources in England suggest that the 28-year-old looks poised to join the Seagulls instead.

Free agent Troisi, who is camp with the Socceroos ahead of Thursday's defining World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia at Adelaide Oval, never made a Premier League appearance during his four years at St James' Park, having signed as a 17-year-old.

If the Brighton deal goes through, it will present a second chance for Troisi to break through at English football's elite level.

A move to the south coast would represent a ninth club for the nomadic Troisi, who excelled at Melbourne Victory last season but has opted to leave after failing to reach terms on an upgraded marquee contract.

Sources in the UK suggest while Troisi would be closely looked at by coach Chris Hughton as a potential member of his first team squad next season, there is also the possibility he could be loaned elsewhere, as was the case when he signed for Juventus back in 2014.

Such a move could lead to Brighton making a quick killing should it lead to a subsequent on-sale.

Troisi didn't end up making a senior appearance for Italy's super power club but would back himself to force himself into contention with Brighton, in a move which would represent a significant opportunity for him to prove himself in a division bereft of Australians.

It's understood the move could be officially announced later this week in what would represent Troisi coming full circle after career stopovers in Turkey, Italy, Belgium, Australia, Saudi Arabia and China.
