The Sky Blues may have been 3-0 losers to the Reds at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday night, but Brosque still emerged as a winner when he met up with Gerrard in the dressing-rooms afterwards.

Brosque told The World Game that Sydney football manager Terry McFlynn, himself a former Sky Blues captain, arranged the opportunity for him.

"Terry had a fair bit of dealings with Liverpool's football manager leading up to the match," Brosque said.

"So Terry had a word to him and as a result I caught up with Steven after the game and he gave me the jumper.

"He was a very nice guy. He congratulated us on our season and what we did and thanked us for playing as well, so it was very good to see such a down-to-earth guy like him."

Brosque's teammate, Rhyan Grant, said the rest of the Sky Blues were "jealous" of their skipper's jersey pick-up.

"There was a bit of jumper-swapping going on in the sheds," he said. "'Brosquey' got Gerrard to sign the jersey as well, so he was pretty stoked with that. We were all a bit jealous, but I think Brosquey deserves the jersey more than anyone."

Brosque intends framing the jumper to hang on the wall at home.

"Absolutely," he said. "It's going to look great."

It had been announced on Tuesday that Brosque was to extend his stay with the Sky Blues, signing a one-year contract extension.
He said it had been difficult for the Sydney players to prepare physically and mentally for a friendly game two weeks after winning the grand final over Melbourne Victory and that they were now looking forward to a break.

"We just wanted to go out there and enjoy being on the pitch with some of the... not only legends, but the current crop of a great Liverpool team," he said.

"The crowd got to see a few goals as well, which is always good, but, yeah, luckily it didn't get too embarrassing for us.
"It's great for the public, more than anything. The public want to see these clubs and to have them grace our fields in Sydney is great. You wouldn't have seen it 10, 20 years ago, but we're now having it on a regular basis."

Brosque's own fandom of Gerrard meant that he could understand the value of the 'exhibition' games when it comes to promoting football.

"These games are definitely for the crowd to come out and watch them play.

"We're looking forward to a break now and when we play Arsenal in July we'll have a better preparation going into that game, after a couple of weeks of serious training. They'll have a lot of their stars coming out, so it should be good."
