After just four starts this season - 15 appearances overall for the Yorkshire club - the 23-year-old is determined to turbo-charge a career which was stalled for the best part of two seasons by injury.
When finally fit this season, he has only been a bit-part performer under Tykes coach Paul Heckingbottom, at a club currently boasting on-loan Australians Gethin Jones (Everton) and Callum Elder (Leicester City).
Off-contract Williams - whose brothers Rhys and Aryn are A-League based with Perth Glory - has all but ruled out a return home as he assesses his next career step, whether he should leave Barnsley.
"The key thing for me, whatever I do season, I want to be playing week in week out," Williams said.
"I haven't done that in a long time. If I am playing every week, I am going to be confident and hopefully scoring goals.
"I think there is a lot more to come from me. I was injured for a long time and even though I am fit now I have not been able to gain any momentum.
"Maybe I just don't fit into the boss's team ... that's fine and is just how football goes.
"I feel I gave a good account of myself in the games I played but things just didn't go the way I'd hoped."
With sibling Rhys recalled to the Socceroos set-up, Williams' priority is to join him - sooner rather than later - in the national team.
Mid-table Barnsley have put on hold any contract extension talks until the end of the season.
"The have an option to keep me, which is their favour, and if they decide to activate that then I will stay," Williams said.
"To be fair, that would be what I want ... I'd back myself if I were to have a full pre-season, which hasn't been the case for a couple of years.
"Whatever happens, I don't just want to be sent off the bench – it's the last thing I want.
"I lot of it is out of my hands but the thing for me is to play.
"I would rather have one good game and two bad ones then come on for five minutes."
Asked if he might follow former Middlesbrough utility Rhys back to the A-League, Williams replied: "No I don't think so, my first priority is to stay in England".
"If I am doing well here, I am sure Ange will have a look at me.
"I am excited about next season, wherever I am playing."
