Meredith, who landed the last of his two Socceroos caps 15 months ago, was heavily linked with Leeds United and Norwich City ahead of the January transfer window.
And, with his contract up in June, the left-back has revealed that he expects to be playing in England's second tier in 2017-2018, preferably with the League One play-off bound Bantams under former Scotland coach Stuart McCall.
Included last week in the division's Team of the Year and named the sponsor's man of the match in the weekend's 1-0 win over Walsall, Meredith, with 37 league appearances this season, says the time has come to exit League One.
"I want to get promoted and I feel I deserve to be in the Championship," said Meredith, who has been at Valley Parade since 2012.
"I have worked hard and feel it's my time to be in the Championship.
"I am in talks with Bradford (over a contract extension) and we'll see how it goes.
"I'd like to stay of course... Bradford are a really good club. They have a good set up, the manger's good, the chairman's good and the team and the fans are excellent.
"Yes, there has been interest (from elsewhere) but I'll leave all that sort of stuff up to my agent.
"I just want to finish the season as strongly as possible."
The Bantams fell short last season with a play-off loss to Millwall, and are sitting fourth with another spin of the roulette wheel beckoning.
"We've come close but unfortunately no cigar yet but I feel we're a good chance this year," added Meredith.
"We are a good footballing team... we move the ball well and play an attractive style.
"We also work hard... we have good players, we have goal scorers. We have got it all really."
Meredith, 28, who won universal approval for his all too brief dalliance with the green and gold, has been superseded by youth in the form of Brad Smith and Alex Gersbach on the road to Russia.
But he believes joining the likes of Mile Jedinak, Aaron Mooy, Jackson Irvine, Bailey Wright and Massimo Luongo in the Championship can only enhance his chance of a recall.
"If you are doing well in the Championship it's quite hard to be overlooked," he added.
"There are a few key players for the Socceroos all doing well in that division."
Meredith admits he was a little "surprised" to fall out of favour but he has no recriminations.
"Brad Smith has been doing well and I just need to focus on my game and certainly I'll have more chance of being picked again if I am at a higher level," he reiterated.
"The boss has put more of a focus on the younger boys and that makes sense if you are preparing for a World Cup.
"I was a bit surprised (when overlooked) but I didn't over-think it and just got to concentrate on playing well for my club."
