Manchester City to decide on Caceres future

Premier League giants Manchester City will make a call on the future of Melbourne City's Anthony Caceres when his loan spell ends at the end of this A-League season.

The 24-year-old midfielder was loaned out to Melbourne City immediately upon signing his long-term deal with the English parent club from the Central Coast Mariners in January last year.

But Caceres' future with Melbourne City remains unclear, with Manchester City possibly electing to loan him out elsewhere or sell him to another club.

"Anthony is a Manchester City player and they will obviously have a big say in what he is doing at the end of the season," Caceres's manager, Tony Rallis, told The World Game.

"We haven't discussed anything with Manchester City at this stage, because Anthony is focusing on what he is doing at Melbourne City and the rest of the season.

"I'm sure Manchester City will have a plan for what they want to do after that."

Caceres has cemented his place in the starting side under Michael Valkanis, who took over as interim coach following the shock departure of John van’t Schip in January.
He is equal-top with striker Bruno Fornaroli for A-League appearances for City this season, having played 23 matches (16 as a starter and seven off the bench).

Caceres, who played the full game for City in their 3-1 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers on Friday, has been one of the team's better performers recently.

He says he has shoved thoughts about his future to the back of his mind while he tries to help Melbourne City win the A-League championship.

"We're at an important time of the year and trying to focus on the games ahead and succeeding as much as possible," Caceres told The World Game.

"I'm here until the end of the season, but I'm not sure what's happening after that. Nothing has really been said so far."

Asked if he was happy at City, Caceres replied: "Oh, definitely. Since I came in I've enjoyed the lifestyle of Melbourne and the club and the facilities are unbelievable."
Luke Brattan and Nicolas Colazo, who are both coming to the end of loan deals as well, and veterans Thomas Sorensen and Josh Rose are also among those whose futures remain unclear.

Midfielder Brattan is contracted to Manchester City beyond this season and recently made it clear his ambition is to have another crack at Europe.

The versatile Colazo is in the final stages of a loan deal from Boca Juniors.

Fullback Josh Rose, who joined City from the Mariners this season, is 35 and it remains to be seen whether the club offers him a new contract.

Goalkeeper Sorensen's situation is intriguing. He has played second fiddle to Dean Bouzanis for most of the season, but held his spot in the team for the game against the Wanderers when Bouzanis became available again after a five-game suspension.

Bouzanis has already been re-signed for next season and there has been intense speculation linking Adelaide United goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic to City.

Striker Corey Gameiro and winger Steve Kuzmanovski, who each had their season ruined by a torn ACL, are also coming off contract.
