TWG: Are you keeping in touch with any of your former team-mates at Sydney FC?
Vedran Janjetovic: Yeah, for sure. I always keep in touch with friends. Football is football, it's bitter when you cross that white line, but outside of that there's no reason why we can't be mates.
TWG: Who are your main men at the Sky Blues?
VJ: Probably Bernie Ibini. We've been good mates for a while now and we stay in regular contact.
TWG: What about the fans on the street? Have you run into any passionate Sydney FC fans since you switched clubs?
VJ: I've run into a few and they've all been good. Everyone's seems a little disappointed that I left, but what can you do? It's a business at the end of the day and I think we all know how that can go sometimes. The fans I've run into have been more supportive than anything else.
TWG: The night you played against Sydney FC for the first time, and some of their fans put fake snakes in the net, how did they get them there? They must have a good arm if they can throw them from 20 or 30 metres away.
VJ: They waited for me to get out there first. Yeah, a couple of the fans must have had pretty strong arms to throw them that far.
TWG: You had a great game for the Wanderers that night in a 0-0 draw. Did you take one of those snakes home as a memento?
VJ: No, but I had a few snake lollies to finish off lunch the next day, so it was all good. A bit of banter from both sides, why not? You're always expecting something. I've been good to the Sydney fans and they've been good to me. I'm enjoying myself at the Wanderers now and I think the Sydney FC fans are enjoying themselves, so I think it's a bit of a win-win situation.
TWG: So you've discovered it's really not that bad, going to the dark side?
VJ: Yeah, it's definitely not the dark side, it's fine. I've settled in well and the boys are great. I've known a few of them for a years anyway, so getting used to things at the Wanderers wasn't hard at all. I just had to get the training fitness, and then the match fitness, back and get used to playing again week in, week out. That was the most challenging thing.
TWG: You're only 29 and that's still young in a goalkeeper's career these days. Are you thinking you may have another decade in front of you at this level?
VJ: I'd love to and I'm definitely looking after myself, so there's no reason I shouldn't be able to. It's obviously something you can't do forever, but if you treat your body right and you're prepared to do all the little things to help extend your career, then you can play for a long time.
TWG: What do you do in your spare time?
VJ: At the moment I'm renovating a house that I bought for myself and my partner to live in. It's taking a while, in-between my training and playing commitments, but I'm getting there.
TWG: Have you got some ability at the building caper?
VJ: I used to do a bit of that as a job before I started playing football professionally. I've got a few little skills in that area that I'm using to get the house in order.
TWG: Are you interested in politics, or are you into the stock-market, or anything like that?
VJ: No, usually when I get home from football I like a bit of down-time. Relax for a while and then, after dinner, I'll often jump on the Play Station for a while. I'm a massive Call Of Duty fan, I love playing that game, and a few of the boys from the team will often jump on at the same time and we'll all play each other. It's something we do away from football that helps bring us close.
TWG: If you need to lift your spirits, what sort of music do you play?
VJ: R&B. At the moment it's Future and Drake that I'm listening to the most. They've got new stuff out and it's pretty good.
TWG: If you need a laugh, what TV show or movie would you watch?
VJ: My favourite movie to get a good laugh from is Dumb and Dumber. If I want an instant laugh I'll just jump on Youtube and type in a few things that will bring up some hilarious stuff. Everyone's trying to make a name for themselves there.
TWG: Can you cook? What mark out of 10 would you give yourself?
VJ: I can cook a bit. I wouldn't say I'm the best, but maybe a six out of 10.
TWG: So you're not useless then. What's your best dish?
VJ: Probably a nice steak with some mash or baked potatoes, maybe even some sweet potato, and a nice salad on the side.
TWG: When you're going on holidays do you prefer a nice hotel all the time or are you prepared to rough it in a tent?
VJ: I've actually never roughed it in a tent, but it's something I do want to do and I'm pretty sure I'll get around to that and spend a few days camping in the bush. But a nice hotel always sounds pretty good.
TWG: Finally, one from left field. You've got an opportunity to be on the first manned space-ship to land on Mars, no charge, but there's a 10 per cent chance you won't make it back to earth. Do you take the trip or not?
VJ: I am there!
TWG: So you'd definitely take the one-in-10 risk?
VJ: Done! I'd love to do something like that. It would be amazing.
TWG: You've got to be a bit of a gambler anyway to be a goalkeeper, haven't you, trying to work out the angles and stop players one-on-one?
VJ: Bit of a gambler . . . I'd say I'm more a bit of a nutter. I think we're a different breed, goalkeepers.
