The Denmark-based midfielder has skippered the Olyroos and distinguished himself in the Danish Super Liga after being schooled at Borussia Dortmund.
But a Socceroos call-up continues to elude the one-time Central Coast rookie, who at 23, believes he's more than equipped to deliver should Ange Postecoglou decide to give him the chance.
With Postecoglou set to name his squad for next month's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Iraq and UAE in less than two weeks, hope springs eternal for Amini.
But it's doused with a healthy dose of realism and a determination to keep excelling for his struggling Danish club AGF Aarhus - and see whether that helps his cause.
"I am just concentrating on my club football... if you are doing well there then hopefully that time will come," he said.
"Regardless of that, it's a big year for the Socceroos with World Cup qualifiers and the Confederations Cup.
"Things can change fast in football, so you never know. You just have to keep working hard and waiting.
"I've been overseas since I was 18 in Europe.
"I was at Dortmund and have stepped up into the first team works in Denmark.
"I am playing every week, I am injury free, so it's all good for me."
Amini, with four goals and a string of assists in his 23 appearances this season, plays at AGF alongside sometime Socceroos midfielder Chris Ikonomides, another vying to win favour with Postecoglou.
"I am playing in Europe, at the heart of football, and just keep doing what I'm doing, and see what comes from there," Amini added.
After a 2-1 weekend loss to AaB, Aarhus are in a relegation battle.
As one of their senior players in a young squad, Amini knows he has to step up.
"I want to start scoring some more goals and hopefully the team can get the results we need," he added.
Amini, who has a four-year deal at Aarhus, says Australians need to be mentally resilient to make the transition to Europe, where precious few are playing in the leading leagues.
"You aren't going to come to Europe and just assume you will jump in and start playing," he said.
"Ten years ago we had a lot players in the Premier League but things have just got harder and harder.
"Clubs invest so much money and now there's China coming into the market.
"It's not easy to play in any league in Europe and I am happy to be doing that.
"As a nation, we proved a lot by winning the Asian Cup but the Confederations Cup will show where we are at."
