Redknapp runs over wife, who 'couldn't move her legs'

Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp has accidentally run over his wife, Sandra, in a "freak accident" which forced the 69-year-old to have an operation on her ankle.

It has been reported in the UK that Sandra got her coat and foot caught in the door of her husband's Range Rover, as an unaware Redknapp drove away - dragging her along the road in the process.

Mrs Redknapp, who was left screaming in agony and unable to feel her legs, has since recovered after having surgery on ligament damage sustained during the accident.

The ex-Premier League manager, who has been linked with Central Coast Mariners as a consultant, was dropping his wife off at the shops in Westbourne when the accident occurred, and said he is relieved she is ok.
"It was just a freak accident you know," Redknapp told the BBC.

"Sandra went across the road and unfortunately she had gone behind the car to cross over the road and as I went to drive off I drove over her ankle.

"It's lucky, if the full weight of the car had gone over the ankle God knows what would have happened to her. We're ok."

A witness to the accident said Mrs Redknapp "couldn't move her legs" but maintained "it was obviously an accident".

Despite being on crutches after her surgery, Sandra arrived home 24 hours after the accident with her leg in a cast.
