Mercurial United States women's goalkeeper Hope Solo has broken down over her suspension, with vision surfacing of the 35-year-old reacting hysterically in a documentary.

Solo was suspended for six months and had her national team contract terminated after controversially labelling Sweden players "a bunch of cowards" after her side's exit at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
And the Fullscreen series, Keeping Score has captured Solo's tearful reaction and embrace with husband and former NFL player Jerramy Stevens.
"Six-month suspension. No pay. Terminated contract. Effective immediately. "Terminated contract! Not just a suspension," Solo said in a hotel conference room, as she hugged her husband.

"How can they do both?," Stevens asks with Solo replying: "It's both. Seventeen f-----g years and it's over!"

Since receiving her punishment, Solo has taken to Twitter to respond to the ban and on Thursday morning (AEST), she decided to call an early end to her season with club Seattle Reign after the "devastating news".
But there may still be more to come - with Fullscreen promising additional footage, from the poignant moment, will be released in their full episode.

An advocate for women's rights, Solo had previously filed a complaint with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for wage discrimination, prior to the Olympics' controversy.
