Elsewhere, the night's big match-up saw Melbourne Victory comfortably dispatch hosts Newcastle Jets 3-1, while Bonnyrigg White Eagles eliminated Manly United 3-0, and Canberra Olympic edged out Surfers Paradise Apollo 1-0.

In the battle of the Reds at Perry Park, Adelaide United were forced into an early substitution when Iacopo La Rocca came off second best from a head collision.

It took just over an hour, but the A-League champions finally broke the deadlock through Ryan Kitto, and it looked as though that would be enough to see Adelaide through.

Right up until the 93rd minute, that is, when their keeper Eugene Galekovic produced an absolute howler allowing Redlands' Michael Lee to tap into an empty net and take the match to extra time.

That momentum carried though to the next period where it didn't take long for Paul O'Brien to put Redlands ahead and send the home crowd into raptures.

They held on 2-1 to pull off both a stunning upset and an amazing escape after being seconds away from defeat.
At Newcastle's Magic Park it took only five minutes for Victory to seize the lead, through the mostly likely of sources.

Alan Baro played an outstanding ball out from the back that ran almost the entire length of the pitch and was run onto by Fahid Ben Khalfallah, who delivered a wonderful cross for Besart Berisha to bury with a header.

In the second half, Wayne Brown got the Jets back into the match with a delightful chipped goal from outside the box but just a few minutes later Oliver Bozanic restored Victory's lead from the penalty spot.

In the latter stages, a poor back-pass into Newcastle's box was latched onto by Ben Khalfallah who turned provider again, laying the ball square for George Howard to make the result comfortable for Victory.
Bonnyrigg White Eagles v Manly United had a delayed kickoff due to Manly's kits being stuck in Sydney traffic, but when the ball got rolling it was Bonnyrigg who were gifted the first golden opportunity to open the scoring when awarded a penalty in the 29th minute.

Manly keeper Dylan Mitchell managed a great save low to his right to deny Aaron Peterson's spot-kick and keep the sides level.

But Michael Robinson did put the White Eagles ahead on the hour mark with a header, before Asmir Kadric gave them some breathing space, and Robert Younis added the final flourish late on.
At Deakin Stadium, home side Canberra Olympic knocked Surfers Paradise Apollo out of the cup with a 1-0 win - Philippe Bernabo-Madrid scored the solitary goal.
