Leckie, who had a standout season for promoted Ingolstadt in the German Bundesliga, is on the radar of several clubs during this transfer window, with QPR one of the earliest to make advances to Ingolstadt, where he has two years to run on his contract.
But after several weeks of discussions, a move to the Championship – which would have represented a significant step down for Leckie in terms of his career trajectory – is officially a no-go with the Loftus Road source claiming Leckie was seeking $36,000-a-week pay package to move to west London.
However Leckie’s Australian agent John Grimaud insisted that there were "several factors to be taken into consideration" when assessing Leckie's future - and it certainly wasn't all about his salary.
“There were talks with QPR but we didn’t ultimately receive a formal offer discussing personal terms and so, in the end, there was nothing to consider," he said.
“If there had been we’d have looked at it .. but that hasn't happened."
Grimaud also highlighted the fact that a switch to the Championship from the heights of the Bundesliga - where Leckie is fast making a name for himself in one of Europe's elite leagues - "would have been another factor to have taken into account as well as a plan from QPR outlining their ambitions and aspirations."
Highly-prized by Ingolstadt, Leckie, 25, could still be on his way out during the window with significant interest from other clubs, though Grimaud remains relaxed over his future.
“Yes, there is interest out there and we will see where that takes him," he said.
