Birighitti mulling over his options

Birighitti, 25, had a loan spell at Serie B side Varese last year, but only made two appearances before returning to the Jets for a standout 2015-2016 season in which he made 26 A-League appearances.

He was linked with Premier League sides Newcastle and AFC Bournemouth earlier this year, and is keen to test himself at a higher level after emerging as one of Australia’s most promising shot-stoppers.

Birighitti has long been on the radar of European clubs and believes he is mentally tougher now than two years back when reports of him being tracked by German giant Bayer Leverkusen led to a drop off in his form.

It’s unlikely that his future will be resolved quickly though, with the clubs in Europe in the process of winding up their seasons and not in an immediate rush to make snap decisions on future signings for at least another m month or two.

But with another stellar season behind him after accepting a one-year deal from the FFA-owned Jets on his return from Italy, it seems inevitable that Perth-born Birighitti will make a move well before the start of the next A-League campaign.
