With second-placed Ajax not in action until Sunday afternoon (local time) at Willem II, Phillip Cocu's men took full advantage after another convincing display at Euroborg.

A deflected effort from defender Jetro Willems put the visitors in front on seven minutes.

Davy Propper doubled PSV's lead in the second half with a neat volley and Jurgen Locadia added a late third when he drove in a low, angled effort from 25 yards.

Utrecht climbed above Feyenoord into the top three after a 4-0 win at Heerenveen, who had captain Joey van den Berg sent off in the first half.

Andreas Ludwig gave the visitors an early lead after six minutes, before Heerenveen were reduced to 10 men when midfielder Van den Berg collected his third red card of the season after he stamped on the ankle of striker Sebastien Haller.

It was the 30-year-old's seventh career dismissal in the Eredivisie, which equalled the league record.

Utrecht went on to close out a comfortable victory with second-half goals from Ruud Boymans, who scored twice, and Chris Kum.

Zwolle beat bottom club De Graafschap 2-1 at IJsseldelta Stadion thanks to a first-half brace from striker Stef Nijland.

Nathan Kabasele netted a consolation for the visitors, who remain two points adrift of Cambuur.
