Wellington haven't won in nine games, so Wanderers could be forgiven for resting on their laurels and settling in for an easy ride given the events of the past week.
But Jamieson, who thought he'd escaped scandal after leaving Perth Glory in the wake of their salary cap saga last season, said the intensity is just as high.
"When you come down to the last ten games of the season you know how vital points are, it really hits home and the Wellington team on paper are very strong - we're very wary of them and we can't look past them," Jamieson said.
"I don't need any more motivation, the business end of the season is starting now and having missed out on finals last year I really want to be a part of it.
"There's a lot of work to go in, it's only February, but it's still close. Every point counts, it's so close. Anyone can beat anyone. We're enjoying every week of the competition and the challenge that it brings."
Jamieson is in career-best form and must surely be in contention to add to his four Socceroos caps some time down the track.
Wanderers coach Tony Popovic was obviously an accomplished defender himself and it is his feedback which Jamieson feels has taken his game to another level.
"I just feel I've matured a lot now, I've taken on board what I've needed to work on from the boss," Jamieson, who was speaking at the launch of the adidas ACE boot, said.
"I'm enjoying 1v1 duels which is weird becaues I used to hate it. I'm just enjoying my football now - being involved in this title race is something I've always wanted.
"We work hard, but there are some things he (Popovic) brought to my attention, and you've got some experienced players to help you too."
Off-field events of the past week have made all the headlines, but Jamieson is keen to concentrate on the action on the park.
The Phoenix encounter represents a chance to move on, despite the sanctions which hang over the club.
"No-one's really talked about it," Jamieson said.
"Having gone through the scandal with Perth, you see the words 'show cause notice' and you freak out a bit. They've (FFA) let the people know who are bringing flares into the games that it's not on and to make sure it doesn't happen again."
