Winners
Stoke City
Manager Mark Hughes' vast contacts book came good once more as Stoke completed a new club-record transfer of £18.3million for Porto's Giannelli Imbula.
Just as the Potters pulled off a coup in bringing Xherdan Shaqiri to the Premier League from Inter Milan in the summer, so Hughes' side seem to have gazumped plenty of interested parties again.
Imbula's arrival further bolsters Stoke's array of attacking talent, as Hughes continues to build on the club's water-tight foundations.
Newcastle
Newcastle have splashed the cash in a bid to propel the club up the Premier League table, but appear to have recruited smartly to boot.
The loan signing of Roma forward Seydou Doumbia could prove shrewd after the Magpies failed to agree a deal for West Brom's Saido Berahino.
England winger Andros Townsend will add pace and verve after switching from Spurs for £12million, while Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet add further depth and quality to the Tyneside ranks.
Bournemouth
The jury is still out on whether Roma loan recruit Juan Iturbe can adapt to the Premier League's physicality. But should the Argentine find his feet, then Eddie Howe will have a real attacking threat on his hands.

Losers
Aston Villa
The beleaguered Birmingham club remain rooted to the foot of the Premier League, which will underline manager Remi Garde's inability to add to his squad in the January window.
Now Villa's French boss must reverse the club's ailing fortunes from within the current resources, and the lack of transfer activity only reinforces widespread view that relegation is on the cards.
Manchester United
While Manchester City stole all the deadline day headlines with the announcement of Pep Guardiola as their next manager, it was all very quiet down the road at United despite question marks hanging over the ability of both their team and coach to deliver success this season.
With United lying 10 points adrift of Premier League leaders Leicester and finding goals far from easy to come by, critics will argue the Red Devils needed to bring in reinforcements, especially up front and out wide, during the transfer window but there were no fresh additions to Louis van Gaal's squad in January.
Leicester City
Leicester's ability to hold onto Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez must not be underestimated, but the league leaders failed with a number of bids to recruit another top-level striker.
