Despite the late goals, Victory, who will now host Perth Glory in the FFA Cup decider on 7 November, didn't have it all their own way and it was actually Hume City who produced the first chance of the night against the reigning A-League champions.
Hume had a penalty turned down in just the 6th minute after attacker Theo Markelis whipped in a cross which appeared to come in contact with Victory defender Geria's hand.
Despite Victory then dominating posession for long periods during the first-half, a resolute City defence kept the favourities out until Besart Berisha was brought down in the penalty area just five minutes before the break.
Hume defender Bradley Walker grabbed hold of Berisha's shirt, and while the ball looked to be behind the star striker, referee Ben Williams had no hestitation in pointing to the spot.
Berisha, who has now scored in every round of the Cup this season, calmly stepped up and converted from the spot, sending City goalkepper, Chris Oldfield, the wrong way.
Hume started the second stanza with gusto and three minutes after the interval, Victory centre-back Matthieu Delpierre was fortunate not to turn a cross into his own net.
In the 68th minute, replacement Sergio Mhsali should have drawn City level but Victory's goalkeeper Danny Vukovic produced a fine save in a one-on-one situation.
With Hume players appearing to suffer from cramp, Victory put the contest beyond doubt in the 89th minute through attacker Barbarouses, who fired home from outside the box.
In the final moments of the match, Geria perfectly timed his run into the box and sent Barbarouses's cross into the back of the net to cap off the win for the A-League champions.
