Vidosic says Wanderers defeat 'just one of those nights'

It's not all doom and gloom at Western Sydney Wanderers after its 3-1 loss to Brisbane Roar, with a belief in the camp that had things been just slightly different they could have easily won.

"I think on another night the scoreboard would have look a little bit different and we would be walking away with the three points," second-half Wanderers substitute Dario Vidosic said.

"It was just one of those nights. We're all very disappointed. I had a good chance when I came on, too, and you need to bury those. We all had chances and one of them just before halftime could have made it 3-2 going to the break.
"It was one of those games where a few centimetres were keeping us out of the goals, so that's something we'll work on and hopefully we'll have our goal-scoring boots on for Adelaide next week."

Wanderers paid a heavy price for a defensive clanger by Brendan Hamill, which led to Brisbane's first goal, and poor defending on corners, which led to both the second and third goals.

But the match statistics showed Wanderers was actually more dangerous when it came to attacking forays into the opposition penalty box and the creation of goal-scoring opportunities.

Wanderers finished with 19 shots on goal to Roar's 11, but it's taking your chances that counts and Vidosic said the players know they have got to get better at that.

"When you're 3-1 down it makes it difficult," he said.

"We have to go for the result, we have to go all-out to score and unfortunately on this occasion the ball wouldn't go in.

"When you lose as a player you don't think of any positives straight away, but we had a look at the statistics in the dressing-room and we were inside their box a lot more than they were in ours.

"So it was just one of those nights where we conceded two goals from set pieces and a mistake that could happen to anyone.
"We'll come back. It's only one round, there's plenty of time and we're developing, we'll get better. I've got no doubt about this team, we'll be very strong. Week by week we've just got to stick together, stay strong and keep working how we want.
"We've got to be encouraged, not take a backward step and play our football from the very first minute. I think that's very important for us."

Vidosic said the players didn't need to be reminded about the set-piece mistakes.

"Any coach at any level of football is going to say you can't concede from a set piece, we know that as footballers," he said.

"That's where you need to be mentally switched on. You've got your man, take care of business. We couldn't do that against Roar and we conceded two goals from set pieces. That's the first thing we have to get right. That has to be corrected and then you give yourself a chance to win.

"But it's a new group and we're going to learn from that and it's better to learn now than at the end of the season when hopefully we're involved in crunch time. We'll iron out all the creases and start firing. I've got full belief in the squad, we'll get better from week to week."

Vidosic, a big signing for Wanderers, said it felt good to get out there for some game-time as he continues to get up to speed with his conditioning at training.

"I was pressing and going at it and I actually felt pretty good out there," he said.

"I'll continue now day by day and I think the key word for me is patience.

"The coaching staff are experts and the medical staff has taken very good care of me and whatever part I get to play I'll give it all I've got and push myself.

"I was happy with how I felt out there and how I felt after it. Now another good training week and maybe push for a little bit longer against Adelaide."
