Davidson confident Socceroos will show class

Australia defender Jason Davidson expects Ange Postecoglou's side will prove too hot to handle for modest Bangladesh in Perth, but he conceded the FIFA World Cup qualifying duel with Tajikistan next Tuesday will be far more perilous.

With three points in the bag after June’s 2-1 win in Kyrgyzstan, Davidson, who is expected to get the nod at left-back ahead of Aziz Behich, will aim to play his part by supporting an attack bristling with menace.

Mathew Leckie, Tim Cahill and Nathan Burns, will be augmented by the forward thrusts of Tom Rogic and Massimo Luongo from midfield.
“I expect us to dominate the game and overpower them but it’s away from home where I think we will find difficult because the atmosphere and playing surfaces make it more challenging," Davidson said.

“In these types of games the opposition tends to drop off and let us have possession and try and hit us on the counter attack, which is what happened in Kyrgyzstan.

“We need to try and kill these games off early and then let them chase the game.”

The Socceroos are at near full strength, with only Mile Jedinak, Robbie Kruse and Trent Sainsbury missing.

Davidson believes it will show in the performance.

“We haven’t seen Tommy Rogic for a while, and he’s a game changer and it’s fantastic to have him back in the squad. He will be hungry to show people what he will do again," he said.

“Then you have Mathew Leckie who I always play well with when he plays in front of me. He’s powerful and fast and of course Timmy (Cahill) will always do his thing.”
“The way we play, the triangles, the set-up, it's hopefully going to be an entertaining game. I am 100 per cent sure that these guys will step up in a big way."
Davidson is in impressive form his his new club, Huddersfield Town, where the matches in the English Championship have come thick and fast.

Davidson said the harmony in the camp, fostered by Postecoglou, was a key to the evolution of the team.

“We have something unique in the Socceroos, there are no cliques in the team and that’s what Ange has tried to implement, to make sure there’s a good environment when you come into camp," he said.

"The last game against Kyrgyzstan was at the end of the season and I hadn’t played that much and Ange didn’t pick me. He's the coach and that’s fine.

"Now, I have already played five games this month, so for me playing against Bangladesh and then backing up against Tajikistan is something I am used to from the Championship, and the same will go for Bailey Wright and Massimo Luongo.

"That’s good for us. We are getting out bodies super fit, and hopefully you see that with the Socceroos.

“From my part, my confidence is high and Ange has always shown faith in me, and I just want to repay that. If I am picked I know what I have to do."
