Taggart, who has won seven caps for the Socceroos, enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2013/2014 at the Newcastle Jets.
The now 22-year-old scored 16 goals to win the A-League golden boot, simultaneously earning a seat on the plane to the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and then a transfer to the English Championship with Fulham.
Taggart came off the bench as the Socceroos chased the game against the Netherlands, and he started the final group stage match against Spain.
However his burgeoning career has been cruelled by injury since his move to Fulham, and he didn't make a first team appearance for the Cottagers last season.
For Taggart, the move to Dundee United is a bid to jump start his career in Europe and force his way back into Ange Postecoglou's plans once more.
Taggart joins fellow Australia international Ryan McGowan at Dundee.
