Adelaide United knocked Sydney FC out of the FFA Cup at the quarter-final stage last season, while Graham Arnold's side got its revenge during the A-League final series.
In the other all A-League clash, Melbourne City plays Wellington Phoenix which is also scheduled for the opening night on 26 August.
Melbourne Victory’s trip to Sydney headlines the second night of round of 16 action, as the A-League champion takes on Rockdale City Suns.
Western Sydney Wanderers is also in action on 1 September with a trip north to take on last season’s quarter-finalist and surprise packet, Palm Beach Sharks.
