Antonis, who will sign a three-year contract after completing formalities on Friday, spoke at length with former Danish international Arnesen on the prospects of PAOK's title aspirations this season, ahead of his $500,000 move.

It has been reported that the gifted Sydney FC star will immediately be loaned out to battling Greek Super League outfit Veria FC on completion of the PAOK deal.

But a spokesman at the Sydney agency which has brokered the deal, Insight Sports, said he was unaware of such a plan.

Either way, Antonis is raring to go after deal-clinching discussions with Arnesen, whose storied football past includes stints as sporting director at Tottenham, Chelsea, Hamburg and PSV.

Arnesen explained to Antonis, who two years ago agreed to a deal with Parma before the Italian side welched out after he got injured, just how highly the club rates him and its plans to take his talent to the next level.

Injuries in recent years have proved a stumbling block for Antonis, who holds a Greek passport, and may have limited his overseas options.

But Arnesen is convinced of his quality and durability for the long-term.

PAOK faces Brondby in a UEFA Europa League qualifying play-off next week, before hosting Xanthi in its Super League opener.
