Dimitrijević, who also won the Players’ Player of the Year and Members’ Player of the Year awards for season 2014-2015, will remain a Sydney FC player until the end of the 2016-2017 campaign. The re-signing of the 31 year-old Serbian midfielder - who has played 37 A-League games since joining Sydney as an injury replacement player in January of 2014 - gives Graham Arnold a formidable looking midfield, which includes Dimitrijević's countryman Miloš Ninković.
Dimitrijević scored twice in 28 appearances last season as Sydney reached the A-League Grand Final and sealed a place in the AFC Champions League.
“I’m really happy to be re-signing for Sydney FC,” Dimitrijevic, who has been in Europe since the end of the recent campaign, said.
“I thought long and hard during the off season about where I wanted to play my football and I am happy I have made the right decision.
“Working with Arnie again and competing in Asia were huge drawcards for staying.
Arnold - who has already re-signed the likes of Senegalese duo Mickaël Tavares and Jacques Faty and added Slovakia international Filip Hološko in place of departed marquee striker Marc Janko - was delighted to retain the services of arguably the team's most influential player.
“Miloš is a quality player,” Arnold said.
“His displays last season earned him the acclaim of his peers and fans and I believe he was one of the form players of the competition.
“To have Miloš back strengthens our midfield immensely as we need a lot of quality and depth with a heavy program, a lot of players away for Olyroos duty and the Asian Champions League matches, plus A-League.”
Dimitrijević will link up with his team-mates in mid-August with the Sky Blues in action in their annual pre-season meeting with Macarthur Rams on Thursday night at Campbelltown Sports Stadium.
