FC Tokyo adds Oar and Janko to wanted list

J.League high-flier FC Tokyo is spreading the net wide during the transfer window with Australia attacker Tommy Oar and former Sydney FC hitman Marc Janko joining Socceroos attacker Nathan Burns on its wish list.

Lying third on the ladder after 16 games, the club is looking to beef up its attacking stocks in the wake of Yoshinori Muto's recent move to Germany’s Mainz in the Bundesliga.

And while talks with Burns's management have yet to bear fruit as Wellington Phoenix's Johnny Warren medallist assesses his options despite a substantial offer, Oar and Janko - who share the same Dutch agent – are also being seriously considered by Italian coach Massimo Ficcadenti.

Oar, whose captivating cameo off the bench saw him score Australia's winner against Kyrgyzstan in last week's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier, has been without a club since ending his five-year association with Eredivisie side FC Utrecht at the end of last season.

He spoke of his desire to remain in Europe after his clinical finish sealed a 2-1 win in Bishkek, but is understood to be open to a J.League move.

A-League Golden Boot Janko has been searching for a new home since negotiations over a new $1.5 million deal with Sydney FC broke down at the end of April.

While neither party was inclined to shed light on the core reason he didn't sign on for a second season after banging in 16 goals for the Sky Blues, it's believed that commission charges sought by his representative may have been a determining factor in Sydney withdrawing its offer.

Ironically, Janko stands to earn significantly less in Japan, should a deal be agreed.

The 31-year-old striker did his market value no harm, however, in last week's EURO 2016 qualifier with his stunning bicycle kick giving Austria a 1-0 victory over Russia.
With Burns now looking less likely to move to Japan, he continues to juggle interest from China and the Middle East.
