A three-goal virtuoso display from birthday girl Gaelle Enganamouit helped Cameroon record a 6-0 thumpin of Ecuador in the battle of the tournament debutants.

The African side scored three goals in each half while the South American outfit had to play the final 24 minutes with 10 players after Ligia Moreira was sent off.

After a low-key opening half-hour, 23 year-old Enganamouit started a move that resulted in a 34th minute goal for Madeleine Ngono Mani.

Just two minutes later Enganamouit got her first for the game before the Africans extended their lead from the penalty spot, after Kerlly Real committed a foul in the penalty area and captain Christine Manie scored from the spot.

Ecuador captain Moreira saw red after she brought down Enganamouit as the last defender and it was no surprise when the Cameroon ace made if 4-0 on 73 minutes.

Another penalty was awarded after a handball from substitute Katherine Ortiz and duly scored by Onguene on 79 minutes before a third spot-kick was scored in stoppage time by the heroine of the day, Enganamouit.

Japan, which defeated USA on penalties to lift the 2011 World Cup, accounted for Switzerland 1-0.

A contentious penalty saw the title-holder overcome the Swiss, after goalkeeper Gaelle Thalmann was ajudged to have fouled Kozue Ando in the process of saving the Japanese striker's shot.

Aya Miyama converted the spot-kick in the 29th minute.
