Wanderers cut Japanese duo loose

Western Sydney Wanderers released Japanese imports Yojiro Takahagi and Yusuke Tanaka as Tony Popovic looks to put the finishing touches on his squad for next season.

Midfielder Takahagi and defender Tanaka joined the Wanderers during the January transfer window and played in the A-League and the AFC Champions League.

Joining from Sanfrecce Hiroshima, 28 year-old Takahagi made 17 appearances for the Red & Black in total for three goals. During his six appearances in the ACL - he scored his lone goal in the competion in the 3-1 win at Kashima Antlers.

Tanaka, 29, was an ever-present wide in defence, making 15 appearances for the club in both competitions after joining from Kawasaki Frontale - but the arrival of Scott Jamieson from Perth Glory looks to have forced his exit.

Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas wished the duo well for the rest of their career.

"Yojiro and Yusuke were complete professionals during their time with the Wanderers and I thank them for their time here in Western Sydney," Tsatsimas said.

On Friday, the Wanderers confirmed the re-signings of Young Socceroos trio Jaushua Sotirio, Shayne D'Cunha and Liam Youlley - with 19 players first-team players on the books.

"Along with the re-signing of (Jonathan ) Aspropotamitis earlier this week, it is fantastic watching this group of players come through the ranks of our club, proving themselves on the pitch and securing their first senior contracts," Tsatsimas said..
