Dimitrijevic headline omission as Sydney announces retained list

Milos Dimitrijevic, Bernie Ibini and Corey Gameiro appear to be joining Marc Janko in the exit lounge at Sydney FC after the club announced its retained players for the 2015-2016 A-League season.

With Janko's marquee stint ending in acromonious circumstances after one highly-successful season, the Sky Blues look to have also lost the services of last season's player of the year, Dimitrijevic.

"We’re communicating, we’re still talking with him," Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold said after Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea.

"Milos was our player of the year this year so our intentions are to continually talk with him. We’ve got a long off-season in the A-League and we’ll see how it goes. The decision pretty much lays with Milos."
Ibini is another who leaves Sydney after his loan spell from Shanghai SIPG ended, while the likes of Sasa Ognenovski, Nick Carle, Ivan Necevski, Robert Stambolziev, Peter Triantis and Hagi Gligor will also move on.

Striker Shane Smeltz and defender Matthew Jurman are on the list having both recently signed new two-year contracts with the club, as are Senegal internationals Mickael Tavares and Jacques Faty.

But it's the absence of both midfielder Dimitrijevic and striker Gameiro, who started the season in superb form before suffering a season-ending knee injury, that could be most harshly felt next season.
"I'm delighted we have been able to keep the vast majority of this season's grand final squad together and with a few more additions I think we are building towards a very exciting and successful 2015-2016 Hyundai A-League season," coach Graham Arnold said.

"We've seen from our performances against Chelsea and Tottenham that we have some very good players at the club and some highly-talented youngsters which is hugely promising for next season.

"We also still have a number of spots available, including one for an international marquee, which bodes well for the future.

"With an Asian Champions League campaign ahead of us we are going to need to recruit well but I believe we have a fantastic foundation for the year ahead.

"I'd like to thank those players who are leaving us for their service to the club and hope they continue to be successful in their careers."
