No more Glory as Vukovic leaves the wild west

Perth Glory announced Danny Vukovic has left the club mutual consent, with the Sydney-born goalkeeper insisting he request a release in the best interests of his family and not because of any A-League salary cap issues.

Vukovic and his wife Kristy are expecting their first child in July, with the pair keen on a move back to the east coast.
After joining Perth in 2011, Vukovic racked up 106 appearances including a Grand Final in 2012.
In a statement , Vukovic outlined the reasons for his departure with Western Sydney Wanderers and Melbourne Victory touted as possible destinations for the 30 year-old.

"Many of you may know by now, that my wife Kristy and I, are expecting our first child which is due in early July.

"Expecting our first baby is without doubt, the best and happiest news of our lives and we can’t stress enough how much we are looking forward to the birth of our new family member.

"I approached the club four months ago, about the possibility of moving closer to home to ensure we have the support network we both need from our family as we don’t have any relatives in Perth.

"No matter how we tried to look at it, the best interests of our child HAD to come first.

"Therefore it is with a heavy heart, that I announce that from June 1, I will no longer be part of the Perth Glory FC squad and the club and I have agreed to mutually terminate my contract.

"I have to stress that this decision is purely based for family reasons and no other, irrespective of what may have transpired off the field, in recent months.

"I have experienced many highs in the past four years while living in WA, especially in the season gone by.

"All the lads showed great character throughout the season, even when the chips were down, to fight back and get results.

"I would like to thank the club, the sponsors, our passionate fans and members for their ongoing support during my time here.

"After four years in the West, I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel like a ‘Perthite’. Our baby will be born a “Sandgroper” but from there on we will be moving to the east coast to be closer to family.

"What lies ahead as far as football is concerned, is not clear at this stage.

"I would like to thank Tony Sage and Kenny Lowe for their understanding as they could easily have declined our request but being both family oriented people, they empathised with our position. For this we are very grateful.

"I wish Perth Glory and all the members and fans, the best of luck going forward."

Late last week, Glory confirmed the exit of attacker Youssouf Hersi, striker Jamie Maclaren has officially asked for a release while it's understood defender Scott Jamieson has been told he can move on after Antony Golec's signing was confirmed.
